Bill still lives on Kauai and now shapes under the Billy Hamilton label. He continues to shape custom surfboards all over the world including big wave guns and replicas of the tow board Laird used on the "Millennium" wave in Tahiti out of the 2800 year old Giant Sequioa Tree as seen here.

Billy Hamilton spent most of his youth in Southern California He eventualy made Hawaii his home and in 1967 Hamilton became a representative of Hawaiian surfing.
Bill began shaping under the tutelage of Surfboards Hawaii's John Price in 1967. He would continue shaping, finding work with Country Surfboards, Chuck Dent and Lightning Bolt.
In 1976 Hamilton was surfing double for Jan Michael Vincent in John Milius' Big Wednesday. Afterward He began shaping under the Bear label depicted in the movie. By 1985 he had become one of the top 25 most influential surfers in history.
